Madam / Sir,
Sub: - Pilot proposal for Solar
Electrification for un-electrified remote villages – Reg.
***
The National Institute
of Rural Development (NIRD), Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, has written to us
stating that they have submitted a proposal to undertake Solar home lighting
system for Tribal household and stand-alone street lighting system and a Rural
Electronic workshop for electrifying remote and inaccessible villages of
EPDCL. The scheme also involves a
survey of remote villages for electrification by Solar Photovoltaic Systems and
implement a pilot project involving local tribal women. As you are aware their first venture at
Paderu has been very successful.
The NIRD proposal to
identify such remote villages and to involve the local women in the villages
with each household investing Rs.1000/- as capital funding and Rs.100/- as user
charge is a proposal in line with the thrust of the Government of India policy
as stated in the National Rural Electricity Policy. The Commission is desirous of encouraging Rural Electrification
both Grid and Off-Grid and is appreciative of your Company’s involvement in
these innovative concepts.
The Commission may be
kept posted of all further action contemplated on the said proposal of
NIRD. The above schemes for promoting
electrification of remote villages with Solar Power may be included in the
Tariff Filings for FY 2008-09.
Yours faithfully,
SECRETARY
